Nyungwe forest national park is the only place to trek chimpanzees in Rwanda and is home to over 85 mammals, over 310 bird species, and 38 reptile species.

Chimpanzee trekking

The notable bird species in Nyungwe forest national park include Pockefellers’s sunbird, yellow-eyed black flycatcher, strange weaver, blue turaco, stripe-breasted tit, Rwenzori turaco, bubbling cisticola, regal sunbird, Rwenzori Apalis, red-throated alethe, miombo wren warbler, shelley’s crimsonwing, red sunbird, handsome spurfowl, Albertine owlet, Rockefeller’s sunbird, Kivu ground thrush, blue-headed sunbird, archer’s robin-chat, buff-throated Apalis, Neumann’s warbler, Rwenzori nightjar, dwarf honeyguide, archer’s robin-chat, and red-throated alethe among others. As you carry out birding exercises in Nyungwe you will be able to spot different animals of the park and plants.
