Detailed itinerary for 1 day gorilla trekking safari Rwanda

On the day of gorilla trekking, an English-speaking driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel very early in the morning and brief you about the whole safari and journey before setting off for volcanoes national park in Musanze district. The drive from Kigali to Musanze will take you about 2-3 hours so you need to wake up and start the journey by 5 am so that you reach the briefing point in time.

With well-developed roads in the country, you will reach Kinigi park headquarters by 7 am and join other trekkers for a briefing from rangers. you will be taught about the rules and regulations of the gorilla trekking activity before going out to the jungle to look for mountain gorillas.

You will later get grouped with other trekkers not exceeding 8 and head out to the jungle led by the armed ranger guides. Looking for mountain gorillas might take between 30 mins to 7 hours depending on the location of the mighty apes but on locating them you will spend 1 hour with them. Learn about their behaviors, see them do daily activities and you can take pictures with cameras that have no flash.

After 1 hour you will trek back out of the forest with opportunities of seeing some of the park animals like the elephants, duikers, giant forest hogs, bush pigs, bushbucks, buffaloes, several primates, and different bird species. you will find your driver guide ready to transfer you back to Kigali with an en-route lunch. If time allows you can take a visit to the Iby’Iwacu cultural village where you will get to learn about Rwanda culture through traditional dances and drama.
