Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Nyungwe forest national park
On the first day of your 3 days chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe forest national park, you will be picked by our English-speaking safari guide from your hotel or Kigali international airport. He will welcome you and brief you about the safari after which you will do a Kigali city tour before heading to the park. during the Kigali city tour, you will visit different places such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Kirimonko Market, Inema Arts Centre, Rwanda Art Museum, and much more if time allows.
From having the Kigali city tour, you will have lunch at any restaurant and then start on your journey to Nyungwe forest national park which takes about 5-6 hours and on reaching the park, you will check in your lodge, have an evening relaxing as you wait for dinner and then later have an overnight stay.

Day 2: Trek chimpanzees and Isumo trail
Wake up to a morning breakfast after which meet your driver who will transfer you to the park offices. Here you will rangers who will brief you about the trekking activity and thereafter grouping will be done and armed ranger guides will lead you into the jungle to search for these primates. as you look for chimpanzees, you will find some of the park animals like the endangered golden monkeys, Olive Baboons, L’Hoest’s monkey, Angola Colobus, Silver Monkeys, Hamlyn’s Monkeys, vervet monkeys, Red-tailed Monkeys, Dent’s Mona Monkeys, Grey-cheeked Mangabeys, birds, and much more.
Once you have located the chimpanzees, you will spend an hour around them, learn about their behaviors, enjoy them doing daily activities and take pictures. Once the trekking is done you will get back to your lodge and relax then have lunch.
In the afternoon, you will have a walk to the Isumo trail with a park guide who will take you up to Isumo waterfall. The journey starts from Gisakura side of the park and takes 4 hours to finish depending on your speed. While walking to the falls, you will meet different birds, park animals, tree frogs, and different vegetation types. You will later return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Canopy walk, Lake Kivu, and return to Kigali
On the last day of your safari, you will wake up early in the morning have breakfast, and then walk to the park offices where you will first get briefed about the 2 hours walk. After the briefing, you will start on your walk on a 90m long bridge that is raised 50m above the ground. During the canopy walk, you will have an aerial view of the park forest, the animals like the monkeys, birds on tree branches, and the surroundings. You can capture some pictures for memories and even showing to your friends back home.
After the canopy walk, you will drive back to the lodge, relax as you wait for lunch, and later you will check out of the lodge and drive to Lake Kivu. On Lake Kivu, there are so many activities you can be part of such as boat cruises which take you around the lake seeing different water animals and birds, and then simple nature walks around the lake where you encounter different bird species. After spending some good time on Lake Kivu, you will drive back to Kigali and your safari driver guide can drop you off at your hotel or at Kigali international airport to end your 3 Days Chimpanzee Trekking In Nyungwe Forest National Park safari.
