Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Kahuzi Biega national park

You will be picked up by our English speaking safari guide from your hotel or Kigali international airport. You will be briefed about the safari and the journey to DR Congo using Cyangugu border will start. It’s a long journey with stunning views of the surrounding hills, plantations, and towns. Upon arrival at the Bunagana border, you will present your documents and cross to Bukavu town near Kahuzi Biega national park for accommodation.

Day 2: Eastern lowland gorilla trekking and community tour

On the second day of 3 days eastern lowland gorilla trekking safari, you will wake up to an early morning breakfast and later head to the park offices for registration and briefing. During the briefing, you will learn about the rules and regulations of the gorilla trekking activity and you will be assigned armed ranger guides to lead you into the jungle.

Eastern lowland gorillas trekking in Kahuzi Biega national park takes 2-4 hours and during the time you take searching, you will be able to meet different park animals such as elephants, genets, giant forest hos, olive baboons, needle clawed galago, monkeys, and different bird species. Once you meet the apes, you will be given 1 hour to be around them, watch them do daily activities, take photos, learn about their habits and later trek out of the jungle back to the lodge.

In the afternoon, you will head out to one of the communities around the park where you will meet local people. At these communities, you will interact with local people, get to know how they live their day to day life, watch traditional dancers, listen to stories and later get back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Kigali

On the last day of 3 days eastern lowland gorilla trekking safari, you will wake up to a relaxed morning breakfast and later check out of your lodge for a journey back to Kigali city. You will meet your safari driver guide at the border and your journey to Kigali will continue with different stopovers along the way. On arrival in Kigali city, you will be dropped at your hotel or Kigali international airport for your flight back home.
