5 days lowland gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo hike is an adventures safari that starts and ends in Kigali city. The safari takes you to Kahuzi Biega national park a home to eastern lowland gorillas and to Virunga national park home of the remaining species of mountain gorillas to hike Nyiragongo volcano which is the most active volcano in the world.

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Kahuzi Biega national park
On the 1st day of 5 days lowland gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo hike, you will be welcome by our English speaking driver guide who will brief you about the journey and safari. You will drive towards the Congo Rwanda border where you will present your documents to get allowed into the country. Your driver-guide will put you in the hands of park authorities who will transport you to the lodge. Spend the evening relaxing, have dinner, and have an overnight stay.

Day 2: Lowland gorilla trekking
You will wake up to a morning breakfast on the 2nd day of 5 days lowland gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo hike, meet your driver for a transfer to the park offices where you will meet other trekkers. You will be taught about the dos and don’ts of the gorilla trekking activity and you will be assigned armed ranger guides to lead you into the jungle
Trekking takes 2-4 hours and during the period, you will be able to meet different park mammals, primates, birds and you will also meet different plant species. When you meet the lowland gorillas, you will be around them for 1 hour, learn about their habits, take photos as you watch them do daily activities such as hunting, feeding, coupling, and breastfeeding among others. You will trek out of the jungle, return to the lodge for lunch, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Virunga national park
On the 3rd day of 5 days lowland gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo hike, you will take breakfast and depart to Virunga national park. The journey is long with beautiful views of the surrounding areas, plantations, mountains, and much more. On arrival, you will connect to your booked accommodation for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Hike Nyiragongo
On the 4th day of 5 days lowland gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo hike, you will wake up very early in the morning for breakfast, get your packed lunch and meet the drive to transfer you to the park offices where you will meet other hikers. You will get briefed about the rules and regulations of the hiking safari and then armed ranger guides will lead you throughout the hike.
During the hike, look out for animals such as monkeys, gorillas, giant forest hogs, chimpanzees, elephants, bird species, and different plant species. When you reach the summit of Nyiragongo volcano, you will have a view of the boiling lava lake, mountain Rwenzori, Virunga ranges, Lake Kivu, Kahuzi Biega national park, and Virunga national park. Dinner and an overnight stay at the summit cabins

Day 5: Descend and transfer to Kigali city
On the 5th day of 5 days lowland gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo hike, you will wake up to a cup of coffee and join your group to start on your journey to the starting point of the hike. You will meet the driver who will transfer you to Kitabi before taking you to Goma. Here you will be handed back to your safari driver guide who will drive you back to Kigali city. If time allows, you will have a Kigali city tour where you will visit markets and interact with local people, art and craft shops where you can buy souvenirs, and Kigali genocide memorial before being dropped off at your hotel or Kigali international airport for your flight back home.
