7 days Congo gorilla trekking, Nyiragongo hike, and chimpanzee trekking safari is an amazing adventure that will enable you to differentiate between two species of gorillas. The safari starts from Kigali and takes you to Kahuzi Biega national park where you lowland gorillas and after to Virunga national park where you meet the mountain gorillas. You will also trek chimpanzees in Lwiro chimpanzee sanctuary and also hike Nyiragongo which is the most active volcano in the world having last erupted in 2021.

Day 1: Transfer to Kahuzi Biega national park

On the 1st day of 7 days Congo gorilla trekking, Nyiragongo hike, and chimpanzee trekking safari, you will be welcomed by our safari guide from your hotel or Kigali international airport who will welcome you, brief you about the journey and the whole safari. You will drive to the Congo Rwanda border where you will show your documents and get allowed to enter DR Congo. Here you will be handed over to the authorities of Kahuzi Biega national park. You will be driven to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Lowland gorilla trekking

On the second day of 7 days Congo gorilla trekking, Nyiragongo, and chimpanzee trekking, you will wake up to morning breakfast, meet your driver for a transfer to the park offices where you will meet other trekkers for a briefing from the park wardens. During the briefing, you will be taught about the dos and don’ts of the trekking activity and you will be assigned armed ranger guides to lead you into the jungle.

In the forest looking for the low gorillas, you will meet different vegetation covers, mammals, primates, and different bird species. As soon as you meet the lowland gorillas, you will be given 1 hour to be around them, learn about their habits, take photos, and watch them do daily activities such as nesting, feeding, etc. Later trek out of the jungle, drive to the lunch and in the evening you will relax at your lodge waiting for the next day. Dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Visit Lwiro sanctuary

On the 3rd day of 7 days Congo gorilla trekking, Nyiragongo, and chimpanzee trekking, you will wake up early in the morning for a breakfast before meeting your driver to transport you to Lwiro chimpanzee sanctuary. Upon arrival, you will be taught how to behave around the animals in this park and then you will be guided around the whole area. You will be able to feed chimpanzees, make them used to human presence and you will also be able to see other park animals such as monkeys. You will return to the lodge for lunch, a nature walk in the afternoon, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Virunga national park

On the 4th day of 7 days Congo gorilla trekking, Nyiragongo, and chimpanzee trekking, you will wake up to relaxed morning breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet your driver to transfer you to Virunga national park which is located not far way from this park. Upon arrival at the park, you will check in your lodge and spend the rest of the evening relaxing as you wait for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Mountain gorilla trekking

You will wake up to an early morning breakfast on day 5 of 7 days Congo gorilla trekking, Nyiragongo hike, and chimpanzee trekking. You will get your paced lunch and meet your driver guide to transfer you to the briefing point where you will meet the park wardens to brief you about the dos and don’ts of the gorillas trekking activity. you will be grouped and armed ranger guides will lead you into the jungle.

While in the jungle searching for the mountain gorilla family you were assigned, you will meet different park birds, mammals, primates and you will go through different vegetation covers. Once you meet the mountain gorilla family you have been looking for, you will be given 1 hour to be around them take photos, learn about their habits and watch them o daily activities like nesting, hunting, coupling, feeding, and much more. Later you will trek out of the jungle, meet your driver-guide, and drive back to the lodge. Relax and prepare for hiking the next day. Dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 6: Hike Nyiragongo

On the 6th day of 7 days Congo gorilla trekking, Nyiragongo, and chimpanzee trekking safari, you will wake up early in the morning, pack some lunch, and have breakfast before meeting your driver guide to transfer you to the briefing point. Here you will meet the park officers who will brief you about the journey and the whole hiking activity and armed ranger guides will be assigned to you to lead you through the whole hike.

While hiking to the summit of Nyiragongo volcano that takes 4-5 hours, you will meet different park mammals, primates, birds, and different vegetation covers. The vegetation is not as much as it used to be because it was cleared away by running hot lava in the last eruption. When you reach the summit of Nyiragongo, you will be able to have stunning views of Virunga national park, Lake Kivu, Kahuzi Biega national park, Rwenzori Mountain, and some of the Virunga volcanoes. You will spot boiling lava at the summit of the mountain and later you will rest at the summit cabins.

Day 7: Descend Nyiragongo and transfer to Kigali

This will be the last day of your 7 days Congo gorilla trekking, Nyiragongo like, and chimpanzee trekking safari, you will wake up at the summit of the volcano to beautiful views of the surrounding areas, have breakfast, and then you will join your group to descend to the starting point. Here you will meet your driver to transport you to the birder where you will be handed back to your safari guide for your journey back to Kigali city.
