Mgahinga national park is among the smallest national parks in Uganda but it’s visited by thousands of people every month who are interested in primate trekking. The national park is home to mountain gorillas as well as golden monkeys that are considered to be endangered. Mgahinga has only one fully habituated gorilla family that is called Nyakagezi and it has about 9 members. 3 days safari to Mgahinga national park will give you an opportunity to spend 1 hour with mountain gorillas and golden monkeys.

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali
On the 1st day of 3 days Mgahinga primate trekking, you will be picked up by our English speaking safari guide from the airport or hotel in Kigali. You will be briefed about the journey and safari. If there is time, you will have a Kigali city tour where you will visit markets to interact as well as support traders, art and craft shops, Kigali genocide memorial to know more about the 1994 Rwanda genocide. Later you will start on your journey to Mgahinga national park through Cyanika border. Upon arrival at the lodge, you will check in your lodge wait for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking
On the 2nd day of 3 days Mgahinga primate trekking from Kigali, you will wake up very early in the morning for breakfast before meeting your safari driver to transfer you to the park head offices. The first thing done is; wardens teach the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking activity. You will be assigned armed ranger guides to lead you into the jungle while searching the mountain gorilla family assigned.
During the search, you will be able to see different park animals such as forest buffaloes, bushbucks, side-striped jackals, duikers, giant forest hogs, bush pigs, monkeys, birds, and different plant species. After meeting the mountain gorillas, you will be given 1 hour to be around them, learn about their habits, take photos and watch them do daily activities like nesting, coupling, hunting, breastfeeding, and playing among others. You will return to the lodge, have an evening relaxing as you wait for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Golden monkey trekking
On the last day of 3 days Mgahinga primate trekking from Kigali, you will wake up very early in the morning for a breakfast. Later you will meet your armed ranger guide to transfer you to the park offices where you will meet wardens to teach you about the rules and regulations of the golden monkey trekking activity.
You will later be led by the armed ranger guides into the jungle to search for the endangered golden monkeys but as you search, you will be able to meet different park animals such as golden cats, elephants, buffaloes, duikers, porcupines, giant forest hogs, bushbucks, side stripped jackals, birds and different plant species.
When you meet the golden monkeys you have been looking for, you will be given 1 hour to be around them, take photos, learn about their habits and watch them play from one tree to another, hunt food, and much more. Later you will trek out of the jungle, meet your driver guide to take you to the lodge for lunch, check out and start on your journey back to Kigali city.
